Baking powder

Description

Baking powder is a chemical raising agent: a mix of bicarbonate of soda and an acid which, with moisture and the heat of the oven, releases carbon dioxide and makes cakes and biscuits rise.

It acts straight away, so batters should go into the oven soon after adding it. A teaspoon is enough for shortcrust or biscuits.
