Silene vulgaris (bladder campion) is a wild spring plant found all over Italy, known by dozens of names: carletti, sciopetti, strigoli, grisol, s-ciopit. The name "sciopetti" comes from its balloon-shaped flowers, which pop when squeezed.
The tender young leaves are picked for risotto, frittata, pasta fillings and spätzle, or raw in a pesto with cashews. As with all wild plants, only pick it if you are sure you can recognise it.
